SYSTEMS FOR HUMIDIFICATION 

All systems have the same goal: to add water to the air and thereby increase the relative humidity. A relative humidity of 40 – 60 % is regarded as pleasant in homes and offices. Measure your humidity with a hygrometer (e.g. Selina by Stadler Form). A distinction is made between two fundamental humidification principles: passive and active air humidification.

With passive humidification, the air absorbs only as much moisture as it needs at the current temperature. This involves applying the self-regulating evaporation principle. In the evaporation process, the dry air from the room is guided over an evaporation filter (evaporator) saturated with water or via moistened evaporator discs (air washer). In this context, the air absorbs only as much water as it needs. The moistened air is blown into the room by a ventilator.

With active air humidification, the current temperature and room humidity are irrelevant. Active humidification systems are vaporisers and nebulisers. The vaporisation principle brings water to the boil and then distributes the hot steam into the room air. The nebulisation system splits water into tiny droplets with oscillations of the ultrasonic membrane, and distributes these as mist into the room air. These humidifiers are extremely powerful and distribute moisture into the air until the air is saturated.

 

A BRIEF EXPLANATION OF 4 HUMIDIFICATION SYSTEMS

 

EVAPORATOR

The dry room air is guided through the moist evaporator cassettes by a ventilator and absorbs only as much moisture as it needs at the current temperature. The air is optimally moistened and blown into the room.

VAPORISER

The water is brought to the boil by means of a heating plate. The hot steam is distributed into the room air.

AIR WASHER

The humidifier discs rotate through the water and absorb it in the process. The dry air is drawn in by the ventilator and guided over the discs. In the process, the air is enriched with moisture and freed from impurities (such as dust, pollen, pet hair and mites) in a natural way.

NEBULISER

The water is split into tiny droplets that are subsequently distributed, by a ventilator, as mist into the room where they evaporate.

EVAPORATOR EASILY EXPLAINED

This technology adopts the natural principle of evaporation. Evaporation filters soak up water. A fan is used to draw dry indoor air through the filters, which transfer their moisture to the air. Over-humidification with this technology is not possible. Evaporators are very efficient and use low power consumption.

AIR WASHER EASILY EXPLAINED

Air washers are a combination of air humidifier and air purifier. Special evaporator discs absorb the water and a fan blows dry indoor air over the rotating wet discs. The moistened air is then diffused throughout the room. The air washer is a high performance humidifier and uses low power consumption. The air washer can also «wash» large to medium particles out of the air.

ULTRASONIC NEBULISER EASILY EXPLAINED

A membrane that vibrates using ultrasound produces smallest droplets of water which are then diffused into the room using a fan, where they evaporate. The visible mist is cold and harmless to children. Ultrasonic nebulisers do not use much power and reach a high performance. Because limescale particles are spread around the room together with the water droplets, an ultrasonic nebuliser must always be used with an anticalc cartridge.

VAPORISER EASILY EXPLAINED

The water is brought to the boiling point inside the device until germ-free water steam is created. The steam spreads perfectly throughout the room and increases the humidity very effectively. This germ-free steam is ideal for allergy sufferers. Vaporisers are highly productive, and they should therefore always be controlled by a hygrostat. Because the heating element becomes scaled over time, the device must be descaled regularly.
